From Cnet:
French site Halo.fr, claims a press release about the book "Halo: Cryptum" by Greg Bear, included mention of a film adaptation of the popular game franchise that could hit theaters as early as 2012.
"A film adaptation is set in 2012," the release reads, according to Halo.fr. "It will be conducted jointly by two heavyweights of American cinema: Steven Spielberg and Dreamworks."
I guess the real news here would be a 2012 release. That would mean Spielberg set up one of the hottest most anticipated movies, went through pre-production, shot it (with a crew of hundreds), wrapped, and is in CGI-heavy post production (with a crew of hundreds) -- all without telling anybody and while maximizing shock value by keeping it a secret. However, something could have been lost in translation in the phrase 'A film adaptation is set in 2012' (that is pretty clunky even as translations go). Doesn't sound like the flick would be released next year, rather, it seems to suggest (pre-)production might start then. Nonetheless, that would still mean (pre-)pre-production, including securing all the leads, money, locations, etc., had been accomplished (secretly) and the production (with a crew of hundreds) is ready to roll in a matter of months.
So, all in all, at first blush, it's a bit too too. Besides, it's not even a Spielberg-esque subject. I can't even visualize the guy's above the title on the poster. But, if it happened, I'd buy a ticket. If it happened.
Passing along all the rumors fit to print...
