'The Invisible War' Picks Up Distribution

From Anne Thompson:

Marking the first acquisition under the new partnership between Cinedigm Entertainment Group and New Video to acquire and distribute independent films theatrically in North America and across multiple on-demand and digital platforms and DVD/Blu-ray, the two companies have jointly acquired North American rights to Kirby Dick's military rape expose "The Invisible War," which won the audience award at Sundance for U.S. documentary.

Cinedigm will release the film theatrically this summer and fall.

A synopsis:

An investigative and powerfully emotional documentary about the epidemic of rape of soldiers within the US military, the institutions that perpetuate and cover up its existence, and its profound personal and social consequences.

I'm thinking this could ignite some very passionate debate. Check out the comments at the YouTube page. Here's a few:

this looks interesting. in south korea, there have been 8 cases since i've been here with the US Army. every single guy has had jail time - one got sent to a korean jail and will stay there for 10 years. i find this movie interesting, because i want to see what lengths these poor women actually went through. the organizations over here take this very very seriously, and we're constantly briefed on the multiple ways to report these cases. either way, this should be taken seriously.

The only good thing the military excels at is in killing. The above documentary makes it clear that as an institution it sucks at everything that smacks vaguely of justice. What else does one expect from an institution that refers to bombed civilians as ``collateral damage''.

As a military veteran who's been stationed at the Marine Barracks, and after watching the Link TV interview, (a notoriously anti military channel) I can say with great confidence and absolute certainty that the information (as presented on Link) was absolutly bogus. No doubt sexual assault does happen...

Fight back????? I am one of the victims in this film and I was held down and choked until I passed out by two men. So dont tell us that we can just fight back! Ready for anything??? I was trained and ready to fight enemies with a weapon. Gee, I'm sorry but we werent trained to fight off men sexually assaulting us. Thats not what we signed up for. You are so ignorant.

And a poster. The tag: "The battleground is your barracks," is pretty strong.

Here's the trailer
