'The Adjustment Bureau'

Everything about this product keeps audiences at arm's length. The title, what does that mean? 'The Adjustment Bureau', not very catchy. 'Adjustment' just isn't a very active word. Needs adjustment...

Clearly, there's a sci-fi vibe, or there's supposed to be, but it doesn't have that feel. It's more like a conceptual novel, not a movie thriller.

I like the tag on the second graphic -- 'Your Future Has Been Adjusted'. Good notion. Reminds me of the more contemporary take on the same motif, 'Source Code', but the blue-toned monochrome imagery drains all the zing out of the idea.

The cold color scheme and the noir tilt of both one sheets is straight from the fifties. So are the shadows of a fedora-wearing man on the buildings. Who wears a fedora anymore? Is this homage to the short story 'Adjustment Team' by Philip K. Dick (published 1954) on which the movie is based? Strange choice. Makes the material seem enigmatic -- not a fun time at the movies.

Another problem is the posters don't impart a sense of plot beyond the vague 'mystery theater' tone.

IMDb has a slugline:

The affair between a politician and a ballerina is affected by mysterious forces keeping the lovers apart.

Tough to relate to a friend. Tough to sell.
