About four photographers, Kevin Carter (Taylor Kitsch), Greg Marinovich (Ryan Phillippe), Ken Oosterbroek (Frank Rautenbach) and Joao Silva (Neels Van Jaarsveld), who covered the conflict in South Africa in the 1990s.
Two, Carter and Marinovich, won Pulitzer Prizes for their work.
Ken Oosterbroek was killed covering combat in 1994.
Carter committed suicide months later out of depression over the death of Oosterbroek and because he was haunted by what he had seen and photographed.

Joao Silva was injured when he stepped on an antipersonnel mine in Afghanistan in 2010. Though he lost both legs and suffered internal injuries Silva made three more shots before help arrived. He is recovering.
