Billy Mernit, author of "Writing the Romantic Comedy", faces a quandary: what to name his new novel. Seems his publisher, Random House, doesn't like his title of choice, "Making Up", and Billy, being somewhat involved in editing the manuscript, has asked his readers to help conjure up a title more in line with the needs and wants of a major publishing outfit. He outlines his story thusly: Desperate to win back his estranged wife, a man invents an imaginary lover to make her jealous...and then gets into real trouble when this fantasy woman becomes real to him.
