Tom Hodge's Poster for 'The Heat'

I saw this over at EW and immediately knew is was Tom Hodge's work. Hodge did great posters for 'Hobo with a Shotgun', 'Innkeepers', and others, and is one of my favorites.

This has Hodge's signature sweep of characters across the bottom that form the base of a triangle that supports main characters on top. Great action and animated expressions.

So far, I'm thinking this is the best part of the movie. Here's Hodge's write up.

Tom Hodge's Poster for John Carpenter's 'They Live' Collector's Edition DVD/Blu-Ray

I'm not a big fan of the movie but the poster rocks. A great one from Hodge. Here's a bit from his write-up:

• Well heres my artwork for They Live, As you may (or may not) know I'm a massive John Carpenter Fan also a huge Rowdy Roddy 'Hot Rod' Piper Fan from my wrestling days (they should have made Tag Team a series!!!). i absolutely love They Live, So you can rest assured that this title has been treated with absolute care, attention and devotion which it rightly deserves !! (so that's the gushing over as the nun said to the vicar!). i was pretty excited to get get unleashed on this juggernaut of social commentary meets sci-fi action...

• After the first one (Dear God No!) i just wanted (and needed) to create the most outrageous exploitation biker image imaginable... I knew the sexy dynamite lady had to be central and i thought what could be a more OTT, cheesy, sexy with a 70s vibe than some outlaw bikers riding forth from out from between a girls fishnet suspendered thighs... Also it was a twist on creaition and brth of the bikers, seriously i'm sure a counselor would have a field day with this image!! (theres lots of issues going on here!!). 

Tom created some great posters for 'Hobo with a Shotgun' and 'The Innkeepers', among others. They're among the best done.

Tom Hodge's Poster for 'The Weather Outside'

• I was going to angle the whole poster but it seemed too much so i kept it along the top to with the effective line break in the tag line, too really emphasis that and for the title, which i based off an amazing old 1920's hand painted french type catalog, i was going to go for a classic script style but it looked too derivative of the film noir style, so i looked towards a more modern sans serif type with a 3D feel to lift it out and away from the main image. 

The split tagline is a good touch. Nice. Far preferable to the first poster:

Tom Hodge's Poster for 'Would You Rather'

To create a different sort of design i looked at a lot of the old polish posters and Swiss 'Plakatstil' stlye designs of the 60s, i also wanted to take a swing at the modern 'new wave' minimal icon poster designs. I really wanted to create a visual which had this totally alternative aesthetic if it was a clean edged poster i don't this it would reflect the dark nature of the movie so i wanted to give it that old screen printed style with the colours out of registration to reflect that... clean and minimal but twisted to giving it a more sinister and unnerving edge!
