Poster/Still for Disney Short Animated Film 'Paperman'

Directed by John Kahrs, a lead animator for Ratatouille, The Incredibles, and other Disney properties. Kahrs could be next in line to direct a feature.

A great concept -- very short-storyish:

• An animated short that follows the story of a lonely young man in mid-century New York City, whose destiny takes an unexpected turn after a chance meeting with a beautiful woman on his morning commute. Convinced the girl of his dreams is gone forever, he gets a second chance when he spots her in a skyscraper window across the avenue from his office. With only his heart, imagination and a stack of papers to get her attention, his efforts are no match for what the fates have in store for him. Written by Walt Disney Animation Studios

Charming, might buy this one. Will play before (and contrast well with) 'Wreck-It Ralph' which opens 11/2. More stills/info.

Lovely poster -- though I'm not quite following. If the guy is trying to get the attention of a woman he's attracted to in the next building, why is there lipstick on the paper airplane (which he is throwing)?

Never mind...lovely poster, and leave it at that.

First Still from 'Wreck-It Ralph' Has Very Sad (Almost Suicidal) Homeless Game Characters

I've ignored this, but this still and synopsis...

• The bad-guy character in a classic game who longs to be a hero brings trouble to his entire arcade after sneaking into a new first-person shooter game and unleashing a deadly enemy. 

...changed my mind. Sounds like a cool plot, and the still looks good. These guys are cute.
 

Interesting that Disney would acknowledge homelessness. Don't believe I've seen that from them.

If you don't know, NPC is non-player character and FPS is first-person shooter. Which means the blue dragon is so desperate he'll be a computer-controlled character (a target) in a shooter game...for food. At least he knows the implications of what he's saying -- see: exclamation point.

Of course, in order for the dragon to enjoy his food, the player will have to miss.

Could we be in for social allegory from 'Wreck-It Ralph'? A new Disney for the 21st century? Hmm...

97 Images from 'John Carter'. No. Really.

There's lots of talk about how this movie is in trouble. Mostly, because it cost so much -- $250 million and counting -- but also because not too many people are paying attention. I mentioned how little impact clips and trailers were having because you just don't care about the guy seeing how he's never in any danger and the action just isn't believable.

Anyway, $250m is a lot of money, and a massive marketing campaign costs a pretty penny, don't forget. I mean, we're getting bombarded by ads, clips, trailers -- they're everywhere. So, there's a lot at stake. In a fairly transparent gesture, Disney has released 97 stills from the movie. I can't remember that kind of volume. Usually, we get a few, sometimes maybe a dozen. But, 97? And, that's on top of all the other stills they sent out over the past couple weeks. I don't know what the total is, but it's a lot. If you string them together you can probably watch the movie for free.

As far as I'm concerned, it's not working. Photos don't make me care any more than before. John Carter, as a protagonist, doesn't connect no matter how good the production value is.

Bolt Clip

The trailer for 'Bolt' makes it look like a retread but this clip is a lot of fun. If the whole movie is this imaginative 'Bolt' will be a hit. Disney needs to put together a better trailer...or just release more clips.

Ollie Johnston, the last of Disney's 'Nine Old Men' -- the animators who helped create classics like 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' -- has died at the age of 95. Bob Mondello reports

Christmas Nightmare Every Year?

Disney is so happy with the numbers for the 3D release of Tim Burton's "The Nightmare Before Christmas" they are thinking of making it a yearly event.
