'A Good Day To Die Hard', The Next McClane Steps Up

Okay, so we get a look at John McClane's son, Jack, and you have to wonder how many more of these Bruce Willis is planning to headline -- alone at least. Looks like Jai Courtney has what it takes -- tough but not stupid tough, good looking but not stupid good looking, likeable but not... Just like Willis.

I'll be expecting Jai to be more center stage for the next Die Hard (he already is in the still above) with Willis perhaps guest starring in the one after that (if he appears at all).

Trailer has an artsy 'short-film' edit and I can't help but notice some too-safe practical effects. Money shot at the end is, well, admirably over-the-top. I'm guessing the movie will be filled with such shots. Looking good. Better than the last one. Well, way better.

Arnold in 'Ten'

So, just this morning we get a trailer for 'A Good Day to Die Hard', which was very good, I thought. Tight, nice visuals, and (somehow) promising.

Now, we get a still from 'Ten', directed by David Ayer, which is a good sign -- 'End of Watch' being so cool in a dramatic vérité sort of way, and all.

Connection? Both are written by Skip Woods and I'm thinking the guy delivers. He's got chops for rhythm and the conventions of genre and maybe he's turned it up a notch. He must have something going on having been tapped to write 'Kane & Lynch' (with Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx) for F. Gary Gray no less. (The guy knows Story. I don't think F would work with just any writer).

So, what's 'Ten' about? From IMDb:

Members of an elite DEA task force find themselves being taken down one by one after they rob a drug cartel safe house.

Sure. That could work.

Here's that picture. Arnold looks great, yes? Spiky, at least.

Pretty good reveal and the Ode to Joy, as many times as you've heard it (in this franchise and elsewhere), grows on you.

Gotta say, this is looking pretty fresh.

Is there a more liked, genial franchise? Is there another property that's a sure thing? Is there an action star that connects with the audience as well?

This sells it. Money in the bank (or another place that is considered secure now that banks are such a joke).
