'Consuming Spirits'

A.O. Scott's write up about Chris Sullivan's animated feature 'Consuming Spirits' caught my eye. A clip:

• I would be inclined to welcome it as an eccentric protest against digital tyranny, but “Consuming Spirits” is so much more than that. The product of 15 years of labor — undertaken by Mr. Sullivan in collaboration with his friends and members of his family, using paper, ink and a 16-millimeter camera — it is a work of obsessive artisanal discipline and unfettered artistic vision. You have never seen anything like it.

• Mysteries proliferate. Whose bones are those in the woods, shrouded in the skin of a deer? Who is locked up in the convent that conveniently and ghoulishly doubles as an insane asylum? And how do actions arising from family love or neighborly charity cause so much damage and grief?  

I have to agree. It certainly isn't like anything I've seen and would seem to be required viewing for movie buffs. Here's a trailer.

A Whole Bunch Of Hellboy Clips (Oh, And A Review Too)

Okay, first, NYT has this photo I haven't seen before -- cool. Second, NYT has A.O. Scott's review -- um, that's good...reviews are, um...good. Third, NYT has a whole bunch of clips from Hellboy 2 -- that's very good. Give us clips, lots of clips, we'll decide whether we want to see the movie. Oh, and thanks for the review.

I Am Legend Featurette

If you're thinking of seeing 'I Am Legend', but you're torn and can't decide, NYT has a nice featurette with commentary by director Francis Lawrence that may tip the scales. A.O. Scott has a nice rundown -- scroll down to his video review for a tasty clip. More clips here, some with snippets that haven't been seen.

Knocked Up

Judd Apatow is enjoying a lot of good press for 'Knocked Up'. Even the buttoned-down A.O. Scott likes it -- well, really likes it. His write-up fairly glows (but, if you want to see what he really thinks watch the video 'Movie Minutes' about halfway down the page).

Also nestled in the review is audio of a 15 year old Judd Apatow interviewing Jerry Seinfeld for his high school radio show, a video Seth Rogen and Judd Apatow made for NYT Magazine, and a slide show of Apatow's work (including a promo shot of him [in high school] with Harold Ramis).
