'Dead Man Down' Featurette

I like everything about this movie. Great title, for instance. Love that -- Dead Man Down -- has a ring to it.

The cast works. In the footage I've seen Colin Farrell and Noomi Rapace click, and don't look like they're in a scene. Terrence Howard brings a weird cool edge as the bad guy -- should be interesting.

That it's directed by Niels Arden Oplev (original adaptation of Dragon Tattoo) is so right for this kind of story. Oplev is directing the upcoming TV series 'Under the Dome', based on Stephen King's story. I'd dismissed this until I heard Oplev was behind the camera. Now, I'll probably watch.

Writer JH Wyman brings that edge -- he's done Fringe and the twisty 'The Mexican' -- and is working with JJ Abrams on a TV sci-fi movie (slash) pilot. That should be endorsement enough.

Chewy Trailer for 'Dead Man Down'

From Niels Arden Oplev who directed the original adaptation of 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo', written by J.H. Wyman (The Mexican, Fringe) who specializes in twisty tales.

With Noomi Rapace, Colin Farrell, Dominic Cooper, Isabelle Huppert, and Terrence Howard.

Looks very good. Visually dynamic without looking like it's trying. Cool premise. Story looks to have a spine. Very chewy.

Trailer for De Palma's Very Blue 'Passion'

A remake of Alain Corneau's 'Crime D'Amour'. I'm hoping it's good. What else can I say? However, with Noomi Rapace and Rachel McAdams and with De Palma's stylish direction (love the split focus screen -- at :21 and :29 -- and the tilted camera/lit blue at :23) 'Passion' will at least be fun to watch.

I Just Knew It. 'Prometheus' Sequel on Track for 2014

I could just tell. The story is too rich and complex and has way too much potential for just one movie, and today THR announces the sequel to 'Prometheus' is moving forward with a release in 2014 or 2015.

Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace are reported to be on board. Fox head of production Emma Watts tells THR, "Ridley is incredibly excited about the movie, but we have to get it right. We can't rush it."

Well, yeah. Sure. Take your time. Take your time.

Yes! Score. I needed a juicy plot to speculate about and I just love typing the word 'Prometheus'.

'Prometheus' Viral Vid: Dr. Elizabeth Shaw Asks Peter Weyland for Funding

POSSIBLE SPOILERS

If the conclusions I came to are correct, the Space Jockeys not only waited for us to attain a certain level of technological advancement before springing their surprise, they also wanted us to have developed a desire to want to know where we came from. Not to know God, per se, but to want to find a tangible metaphysical answer. That is, to be able to go to a place and actually find, study, and return to Earth with evidence proving where we came from and why we are here.

This fits. The SJ would have wanted this before initiating their, shall we call it a 'solution'? Perhaps 'resolution' is more correct. In fact, curiosity combined with a deep scientific understanding of the universe would be prerequisites. You can't go to a distant planet searching for your origins if you are technologically unable to embark on such a trip and, on top of that, don't care to know what's out there.

In this video Dr. Elizabeth Shaw seeks funding for a trip to the planet where she believes she will find proof we did not evolve on Earth by ourselves, without assistance from intelligent overseers. It would take the research and theories of a brilliant scientist like Dr. Shaw supported by the resources of a giant corporation like Weyland Industries to make such a mission possible. And, these are the very things -- scientific advancement, a driving curiosity about matters of being, and massive wealth -- which are the markers which indicate we have reached the point in our evolution when, as a race, we are ready for elimination. Or, more precisely, we have reached a point when our elimination has become necessary.

The search for our beginning could lead to our end. Why it is that, once you reach the point where you are able to find the answers to timeless questions you must be wiped out? Whatever you call it -- solution, resolution, whatever -- the SJ mechanism employs an elegant brutality the logic of which can't really be argued with.

Trailer for 'Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows'

Perhaps a tad less garish and cheeky than the first movie, yet even more stylized (if that's possible). Title is darker, imagery is darker. There's the inkling of depth of character. Production value to burn. Hoping Noomi Rapace brings some weight to this franchise.
