Juno Clip

Here's a good clip from 'Juno' -- Ellen Page has brought this character to life. Here's an interview with screenwriter Diablo Cody aka Brook Busey -- the former stripper and author of The Pussy Ranch -- which keeps changing addresses. I believe Cody's latest is available on her MySpace page.

That Indie Show interviews Jason Reitman and Diablo Cody, the director and writer of 'Juno'. Reitman says he shot one particular scene even though he didn't understand it out of respect for the writing. Cody admits that scene was born of her lack of experience as a screenwriter and she would not write a scene like that now.

Ebert's View

Have you seen Roger Ebert's Top Ten list for 2007 yet? He gives 'Juno' the top spot, and 'No Country for Old Men' the second spot. Of 'Juno' Ebert says:

It is so hard to make a great comedy at all, and harder still to make one that is intelligent, quick, charming, moving and yes, very, very funny. Seeing “Juno” with an audience was to be reminded of unforgettable communal moviegoing experiences...

Sounds right to me. 'Juno' and 'No Country for Old Men' indeed seem to be the best of 2007.

Another picture I'm looking forward to seeing is 'El Orfanata' (The Orphanage). Of it, Ebert says:

Now here is an excellent example of why it is more frightening to await something than to experience it. "The Orphanage" has every opportunity to descend into routine shock and horror, or even into the pits with the slasher pictures, but it only pulls the trigger a couple of times. The rest is all waiting, anticipating, dreading. We need the genuine jolt that comes about midway, to let us see what the movie is capable of. The rest is fear.

Diablo Cody, The Pussy Ranch, And Juno Trailer

'Juno' is one of the freshest-looking trailers I've seen in a long time. Story is of a 16 year old girl who gets pregnant and decides to give up the baby for adoption -- following her relationship with the adoptive parents during the pregnancy.

'Juno' is written by Diablo Cody, a former advertising copy editor turned stripper turned journalist turned novelist and screenwriter. Here is Diablo's (new) blog, The Pussy Ranch. Here is an interview with Diablo and Jason Reitman from Telluride. Movie is scheduled for a December 14th release.
