Encounters At The End Of The World

I'm liking the look of Werner Herzog's new doc 'Encounters at the End of the World'. Sort of a mix of a standard National Geographic look at Antarctic wildlife and a As-the-World-Turns look at the people who live and work at McMurdo Station.

Over at NPR, David Edelstein reviews the doc along with two others, 'My Winnipeg' and 'Chris & Don'.

Edelstein On Ocean's

David Edelstein gives 'Ocean's Thirteen' a glowing review. On the same page are links to two very nice looking clips. In 'I'm here to give you a chance' there's some top-drawer acting from Al Pacino, who (at this stage of his career) has technique to burn. 'I'll keep working on it' shows off Soderbergh's cool cool camera and editing, which (in this scene at least) is better than the material the actors are working with.

Praise For Cooper In Breach

"Breach", the story of traitor Robert Hanssen, which stars Chris Cooper and Ryan Phillipe; directed by Billy Ray and written by Ray, Adam Mazer, and William Rotko, is getting some very fine ink -- all of which praise Cooper's performance.

I especially like the way Cooper keeps Inskeep (one of NPR's senior reporters and a veteran interviewer) just a bit off balance. It would seem Cooper has very much internalized some tinker/tailor pyschological orientation.
