Apple has two trailers. In one it's claimed the movie is based on real incidents. So, I poked around and found this at Wikipedia's page for the movie:

The incident took place in downtown Oakland on an Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District (AC Transit) Line NL bus bound for San Francisco, and involved a black man, identified only as Michael,[7] and an older white bearded man identified as Thomas Alexander Bruso,[7][8] who later came to be referred to as "Epic Beard Man".[9][10] The events in the bus were recorded by Iyanna Washington.[4]
