'Sex Friends'

This French poster for 'No Strings Attached' is too funny. If you're going to lose that much in translation, shouldn't it at least be in French instead of English? I mean, I'll bet anything 'sex friends' reads a lot better in French. Got to.

Should say, poster is just as bad with the correct title (in English). New poster please.

Great Actor in a Vacuous Movie

Here's Jeanette Catsoulis on 'Black Swan':

For all its dazzling allure, Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan, a feverishly psycho thriller set in the hermetic world of classical ballet, proves a meaningless exercise in Grand Guignol exhibitionism.That Natalie Portman does everything but turn herself inside-out to play Nina, a profoundly troubled ballerina, only underscores the vacuity of the film surrounding her: It's a punishing, tutus-to-the-wall performance that screams for more substance than Aronofsky is willing, or able, to provide.

The reviews are about as entertaining as the clips and trailers.

It's Like...'Showgirls' Remade by Polanski

David Edelstein has what is probably the first negative comment about 'Black Swan':

The camera follows about a foot behind Nina's slender neck as the locations change and doppelgangers pop up left and right. Reflections of Nina in mirrors take on a life of their own. Icky, feathery things sprout from her flesh. There are bloody assaults that might or might not be real.

Black Swan is a virtuosic piece of filmmaking, a tour de force — and also, I think, a camp classic, like Showgirls remade by Roman Polanski. You could have a great time laughing at it and it's goofy Freudian cliches, if only it weren't so bludgeoning.

Well, maybe 'negative' isn't the right word. 'Grudgingly reverential' seems to be the tone. Resistant yet adoring?
